We chased the last of the alpine wildflowers up Guanella Pass and ended the session with Mount Bierstadt glowing pink behind them.
Why Guanella Pass
Guanella Pass climbs to 11,669 ft between Georgetown and Grant and is one of the easiest above-tree-line drives in Colorado. Wildflower meadows in July, golden willows in September, and 14er views year-round.
The Session
We pulled off at a meadow on the way up, found a quiet stretch of willows, and worked our way toward the summit for the last light.
Planning a Guanella Pass Session
It's high, pack water, layers, and a wind jacket even in summer. Aim for late July or early August for wildflowers, late September for the willows turning gold.
